I am excited to return to my alma mater as Director of Counseling and to teach Dance 1.  I am a proud graduate of San Gabriel Mission High School’s class of 1994!  I had a wonderful experience as a Mission Pioneer, my high school teachers inspired me, and the friendships I developed have lasted a life-time.  While at Mission I participated in Campus Ministry, Cross Country, the play’s, and various clubs.  More importantly while at Mission I grew as a person developing confidence and my passion for learning and service to others.

I attended Loyola Marymount University for my Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and my Master degree and credential in School Counseling.  While at LMU I rowed on the crew team, served on the Special Games committee recruiting athlete’s, was a member of Gryphon Circle service organization, Kappa Delta Pi (education honor society), and worked in the School of Education.  I earned recognition as the School Counselor of the year before my graduation.  While in high school I never thought I would be a high school counselor.   Throughout all of these experiences though in high school and college I developed a passion to serve others and advocate for those who cannot do so for themselves.  I am glad that these experiences guided me to the field of school counseling which has now become a strong passion of my life.

For the past sixteen years I have been the Personal Counselor at Providence High School in Burbank.  Throughout my experience at Providence High School I served as freshmen and sophomore academic advisor for a few years, Department Chair for the Counseling Department, Director of Student Activities, and worked with students with learning differences.  I was a very active member of the school community.  I was on the adult KAIROS team attending about thirty-two KAIROS’, and chaperoned and helped lead about twenty-four ASB camps. I developed our transfer student program, and freshmen mentor program helping new students transition into the high school community.  As the Department Chair I advocated for more members of the department which grew from two members into five members.  I worked with the College Counselor and brought more test-preparation programs to the school community.  My goal as a school counselor is to help empower students to recognize their strengths and to find their voice, so when they graduate from high school they become their own self-advocate.  It is important to develop a strong support system for students in order for them to recognize and achieve their goals.  Parents, guardians, faculty, staff and administration are all important components of this support system for students.

I have always enjoyed dancing and am very excited to teach Dance 1 this year.  I started taking dance classes through San Gabriel Recreation Department, and ever since then have enjoyed taking classes.  In college I took a semester of Irish and Folklorico dance.  I have enjoyed going to Zumba classes since 2012, and enjoy swing and salsa dancing in my free time.

I am extremely excited to come back to my alma mater and give back to a community that helped empower me to become the person I am today.
