Women's Literature (Period 6)

Course Description:

This is a writing-based course emphasizing reading and critical analysis of literature written by and about women. Students will be introduced to works by female authors from historical, social, and literary perspectives. There will be an emphasis on how gender roles develop and change and how women's views of themselves are reflected in their writing. Texts will include a variety of forms, and students will be able to identify literary and rhetorical strategies within the texts. Additionally, students will grow in historical, philosophical, religious, and cultural information to help increase understanding and appreciation of various forms and of various female cultural experiences. A research project/paper of 8-10 pages is required for completion of this course.
