There's a little bit of a glitch with turnitin.com and your peer review. Some of you are receiving instructions on what peer review feedback to give while others are not. I am posting the guiding questions here for your use. Include them in your comments on the paper if you can. Above all else, do your best to give genuine feedback.

Guiding questions:
Identify the thesis statement.

How well does the author organize her paper? Is it logical and easy to follow?

Does the author use CD's and CM's to support the topic sentence of each paragraph?

Identify 2 skills the author performs well in this paper. Give specific examples.

Identify 2 areas of improvement. Provide specific examples and suggestions.

Does the author's essay respond to the prompt? Explain. Give at least 2 examples.

Does the author demonstrate an understanding of definition as a rhetorical mode through her essay? Explain. Give at least one example.

How well does the author analyze each essay as definition essays?

1. 5 Steps to a 5: Read chapter on Rhetorical Analysis. Take notes on strategies.

1. Write a 5 paragraph essay (2-chunk, 1:2 paragraphs) in which you discuss how the essays written by Sontag, Parker and Naylor fit the requirements of definition as a rhetorical mode. You may use the paragraphs you have already written as part of your essays, however it is expected that you expand these paragraphs so your essay thoroughly analyzes each author's use of definition. You will be assessed using the standard AP Lang & Comp Rhetorical analysis rubric.

2. Freedictionary.com says that "exposition" is "A statement or rhetorical discourse intended to give information about or an explanation of difficult material." Read Columbus' letters to Luis de Santangel and to Ferdinand and Isabel (Norton, 25-28). Complete 10 entries in your dialectical journal that will help you discuss these letters as expository writings.

NOTE: I do not expect you to do your toolbox on a computer. You may if you'd like but if you've already started doing it by hand you may do so. The purpose of the example is to offer you a point of reference for what's expected for this assignment in terms of content.
