IB English HLY2 (Period 5)

Course Description

Course Description:

This course is the completion of the two-year requirement for IB English A Literature; it will cover the remaining two parts (1 & 3). The study of literature covered in this class is a pathway for students to understand and relate to the world around them. The goals of this course are to expose students to a wide variety of genres, periods, styles, and themes of literature; to develop students’ abilities to think and respond critically to literature; to hone students’ writing skills and communication skills in general; and to instill in students an appreciation for both the literary merit of the works studied and the cultures that these works represent.

Assessments for this course will include written and discussion based assignments.  Through guided discussion and practice, students will learn the skills necessary to critically comment upon works of literature that they have studied in detail, as well as works that are new to them.  Students will analyze, respond to, and evaluate literature on a daily basis, and will develop their skills in discussion, critical analysis, and written expression.
