Academic Support

The rigor of the Mission curriculum challenges our students to perform to their best potential.  Our goal is ensure that all students receive the support they need to be successful.  Therefore, students have access to various forms of tutoring offered at SGMHS.

  • Each faculty member offers tutoring hours on certain days between M- F
  • Peer tutoring is offered by our National Honor Society (NHS)
  • The Director of Counseling provides academic counseling and guidance to our student population.
    • Monitoring academic progress and checking in with students who could use extra help with time management and study skills.
    • Encouraging students to take advantage of tutoring services available to them by their teachers and NHS tutors.
    • Conducting student support meetings when needed to develop academic plans to help students succeed academically.
    • Managing minor adjustments for those students with additional needs.
    • Presentations on academic requirements given by the Director of Counselor and Director of Curriculum.
    • Individual course selection meetings in the spring to develop an academic plan that meets the students college and career goals.
    • Celebrating our student successes and encouraging them to take advantage of selective programs offered at SGMHS and in our community.

Teacher Communication:

  • Attending a school with a smaller student body allows better communication between teachers, parents, and students.  Our teachers are dedicated to ensuring that each student is receiving the attention they need.  To strengthen this communication, each of our faculty and staff members is provided with a school email they can use to contact parents and students.  Their email address can be found on their staff page.
  • Parents are welcome to contact their daughters teacher to schedule a meeting or to discuss assignments and grades.
  • Teachers send out progress reports every other week in order to help our students and their parents stay on track with their academic progress.
  • Students can contact their teachers outside of school hours via email or Google Classroom.

Aeries

Aeries is a system the school has in place for parents to check their daughter’s grades, attendance, graduation status, student and parent hours. Students and parents will each have their own Aeries accounts. All families will need to create a new account which requires an email address. Detailed instructions are posted below and directions will also be given at Back to School night. You will need your student's Permanent ID number, home phone number and Verification Code to create an account. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]

The SGMHS library is one of our most cherished places on campus.  With its beautiful Mission architecture, cozy Juliet balcony, and vast collection of books, students can enjoy this space any day during the school week.

Counseling Office
The Counseling Office space is a location where students can come to receive academic and college counseling.  Students who qualify for extended time on tests/quizzes use this space for taking those exams.

The library features:

Plenty of work space for students to complete group or individual projects

Charging stations on the second floor for all devices

Occasional guest speakers

Displays of student art work

We believe that it is important to prepare our students to use technology as stewards of digital citizenship.   Tech devices are tools that help students foster academic, social and personal connections.

WiFi

The school is equipped with WiFi to provide for the needs of all students and faculty.  Students receive their access code in the beginning of the year.

E-Books & 1:1 Technology Devices

At Mission, all students are expected to bring their own tablet to be used in the classroom.  Most textbooks used in the classrooms are electronic and are to be downloaded into the student’s devices.  The teachers also have students access other educational apps that will benefit their learning process.

Google Apps for Education (GAFE)

Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is a core suite of productivity applications that Google offers to schools and educational institutions for FREE. These communication and collaboration apps include Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sites, and a GAFE account unlocks access to dozens of other collaborative tools supported by Google. All of these applications exist completely online (or in the cloud), meaning that all creations can be accessed from any device with an Internet connection. Once a school decides to embrace Google Apps for Education, they can register their school domain (web address), and administer all teacher and student accounts from an administrative dashboard. All SGMHS classes work off the Google Classroom to upload course material, receive assignments, and communicate about course requirements.  Students and parents have access to this site.

All SGMHS students are given a school email that is theirs to use for life.  This will be the primary source of contact between students and teachers outside of school hours.  Once the student graduates SGMHS, they will continue to access their email account and will be contacted for alumni events via their SGMHS email.

SMART Boards

Each classroom is equipped with SMART Board technology.  SMART Boards are digital whiteboards that help students connect in the classroom and outside the classroom as well.

Attending a school with a smaller student body allows better communication between teachers, parents, and students.  Our teachers are dedicated to ensuring that each student is receiving the attention they need.  To strengthen this communication, each of our faculty and staff members is provided with a school email they can use to contact parents and students.  Their email address can be found on their staff page.

Students can contact their teachers outside of school hours via email or class apps.

  • SGMHS utilizes Google Classroom for students to receive, track, and upload their course assignments.
  • Google Classroom is linked to AERIES and grades are posted.
  • Parents/guardians are encouraged to actively track their child’s academic progress through Google Classroom.
